This book is a collection of the writings of Mary Heaton Vorse who was a leading labor journalist and feminist. Her writings covered major labor and radical events in the United States and Europe during the first half of the twentieth century. Along with her contributions to labor journalism during this period, additional pieces covering topics of activism, feminism, and struggles for social justice are included in this collection. There is also an autobiographical piece on "her ongoing effort to reconcile the demands of motherhood with those of her profession." There is a brief introduction before each selection in this book.
The introduction was written by Dee Garrison. She was a history professor at Rutgers University during this period and studied women's history and issues.
