Report of the Special Milk Board, which was appointed to investigate the status of milk production, distribution, and inspection in Massachusetts. The Special Milk Board presented conclusions regarding pasteurization, tuberculosis, milk storage, milk for infant feeding, and so on.
This report was made in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts by the State Department of Health. The report was submitted on December 29, 1915 to the Commissioner of Health and Public Health Council. The purpose of this report was to investigate the statutes of milk production, distribution, and inspection. The report covers issues, or the "milk problem", including pasteurization/sterilization, milk in the possession of the consumer, tuberculosis, milk for infant feeding, existing inspection, state control, state of milk prices, and Massachusetts dairies. The report provides historical context as well.
Attached to page 353 in the appendix, is a fold-out page, "Appendix I", showing a map of New England. In the lower right portion of the page, it states: "Map Showing Milk Producing Sections Investigated by The Milk Board of the Mass. State Dept. Of Health, 1915." There are black circles on the map to denote sections visited.
