[…] The third part relates to the sinking of wells and borings […] In the fourth part, relating to pumping machinery for raising water, I have attempted to describe the principal varieties of engines and pumps used for this purpose both in this country and America […] The fifth part relates to Waterworks obtaining supplies from rivers, streams, and drainage areas […] The last part is devoted to the flow of water in open channels and pipes, and to the subject of gauging water under various conditions […]”.
