Also commentary on personal life: growing up in Methuen during Depression years - without a father (who had died), working as delivery boy for .25 cents per week, delivering newspapers when they were .2 cents apiece - how he used earned money for shoes, candy, entertainment, sports equipment, etc. Explanation of "point system" at Tribune. Description of fishing, which was his main recreation (on Merrimack). Description of trying to buy a house and his observations re: pros and cons regarding availability.
