This book contains "records of the important events in Lawrence & vicinity from 1845 to 1894. It contains the history of the corporations, industrial establishments, churches, societies, clubs, and other organizations; It also contains national, state and municipal statistics and a variety of useful information." Some of the more interesting statistics are the listings of drowning cases & where they took place, destructive fires, fatal accidents and causes and murders.

The pages are separated from the spine. The title page bears the name "J Shepherd Wright". The inside back cover contains two newspaper clippings, both poems. The titles of the poems are "We Shall Sleep and Heed It Not" and The Captain's Secret".
