The book “My Voyage with Ozzie” begins with a hand-written note from the author informing us that “Ozzie” was the band director at Lawrence High School. The book is about adding a new perspective and allowing people to try a new lens to an event that ultimately changed the timeline, World War II. Rothera elaborates on the recollections of his granther, Oswald “Ozzie” Vogel, a German-American radar operator in the USS Missouri during WWII. The book gives us insight on what these soldiers had to overcome. We get an inside scoop of the trials and tribulations of their odyssey. In addition, Rothera shares stories from his families past, and brings it all full circle by enlightening us with the crises America faces in current day.
