Title
Vital Records to 1850 - Lawrence, Massachusetts
Title (generic)
Book

The birth, marriage, and death records kept by the town clerks, in the church record, in the cemetery inscriptions and from the private records found in family Bibles, etc. to the end of 1849.
The records for residents of the sections of Andover, North Andover and Methuen that pre-date the incorporation of Lawrence were taken from those towns and recorded in this book.:
- Parts of Andover and Methuen were incorporated as Lawrence April, 1847. Lawrence was incorporated as a city on March 21, 1953.
- The Methuen section was annexed to Lawrence on April 4, 1854
- Parts of Andover and North Andover were annexed to Lawrence on February 4, 1879
In this book:
- All duplication of the town clerk's record was eliminated - differences in entry and other explanatory information appears in brackets.
- Parentheses are used when they occurred in the original record, and to indicate the maiden name of a married woman.
- When places other than Lawrence and Massachusetts are given in the original record, those places appear in this book's record.
- In all records the original spelling of names is followed.
- In the alphabetical listing, various spelling of names should be reviewed as members of the same family might be found under different spellings.
