Subtitle
Some Experiments in Appreciation of the Contributions of Our Foreign-Born Citizens to American Culture
This book tells the story of efforts to assimilate people from other countries. "Some of the efforts at Americanization were ..shortsighted and ill-considered, particularly those which assumed that the immigrant had nothing to contribute...." After about a century and a half some of our citizens feared that the "American stock" was in danger of contamination from European immigrants." This book is part of the collection from the Lawrence Public Library which is being withdrawn from the collection and donated to the LHC.
