Summary: Savan's story of escape from Communists, bombing and terror shows incredible courage. She carried a baby who is a Lawrence High School student today. On the way she lost two children to dehydration. She also lost her husband and three brothers. Her present husband is still uneasy. Today she is an educated, professional woman, homeowner, and grandmother who volunteers at the Asian Center. Note from Sr. Helen - "Imp. to Interview". Husband is one of Cambodian leaders that escaped in 1975 to USA - eventually came to Lawrence - quite possibly one of the few educated Cambodians that escaped. Sovan is one of the first female teachers in Lawrence (certified) - Wetherbee School. Husband is a teacher in Lowell High (History and Math). Now organizing a New Cambodian Foundation in Lawrence called Lawrence Cambodian Mutual Assistance, Inc. He is an MBA student at Franklin Pierce.
