Summary: The narrator's father ran Ricard's Jewelry at the corner of Concord and Broadway until his death in 1934, when the store closed. It was owned by his brother, who had a store in Lowell and one in Nashua. The clientele was mostly French. Her mother ran a variety store in the bottom of their house during the early 1930s, baked beans for sale, and had slices of ham which she cooked. Customers conversed in both French and English.
