Title
Haynes, John (Jack)
Born: January 7, 1926
Occupation: Hood Milk Company and Publishing Supply House in Salem, NH
Ethnic Background: Irish
Interviewer: Mary Armitage
Comments: Mr. Haynes worked for H.P. Hood Co. for 35 years - beginning directly after his graduation from high school. This interview is a far ranging and in-depth discourse on his employment there, and covers: daily routine, pay, progress of the company, relations between management and worker, reasons for being non-union, benefits, etc. This tape also has an interesting section of civilian activities on the home front during WWII, such as a plane spotting station in the Bay State Building, and Victory shifts in the local mills. He corroborates Dude Regan's story of using melted down records to paint head lights on cars during black outs. He does not recall what it was used for, but distinctly recalls the collecting stations for records. In general, good info. about a local company.
Tape recorder used: Realistic (M. Armitage's)
