The Flag Pole

From "Around and Through the Common"

The flag pole was donated by Joseph Shattuck to remind the people of Lawrence of October 12, 1912, when 32,000 men, women, and children of the city marched under the flag for God and Country.

Designs on the base of the flag pole with spindles, gears, scrolls, and fruits symbolize learning, growth, and the fruits of the textile industry, while the figure on the top with its hand extended symbolizes peace.
