Comments: This tape is about the Jewish community. Life-long Lawrencian. Executor of the Ash Estate which benefits Jewish community. Source of information re: Ash family.
Summary: Mr. Goldstein's parents came from the Ukraine. Mother worked in the weaving room of the Washington Mill. Recollections of the synagogue on Concord St. Various residences: Berman Ct., West St., Chestnut St. Schooled at the Washington St. School, Manchester St. School, Cross St. School, Oliver school (grad. 1919), Boston University law School (grad. 1922). While at school, he worked as a bobbin boy. (Mrs. Goldstein made valuable comments during this interview.) His mother ran a grocery store. Max practiced law with Judge Brucato, Walter Rockford (Mayor of Lawrence). Discussion of how he studied law. One case that he tried made legal history, Franz vs. Franz, a property rights ' case. Discussions of brother, Sam, and sister, Jennie, Max's illness, his first wife, Eleanor, his second wife, Audrey, and her family history.
Max is Chairman of the Board of the BonSecours Hospital (Holy Family), supervises the Ash Charitable Fund, Treasurer of the Greater Lawrence Sanitary District, Director of the Arlington Trust Co., former trustee of Merrimack College.
