Summary: The narrator vividly recalls being roused out of bed in the middle of the night and carried into a row boat in the darkness to safety. The water had reached the bottom half of the first floor and the electricity was cut off. The water seemed like an ocean. This childhood memory has left the narrator with a fear of water to this day. SPICKET RIVER overflowing its banks in the Flood of 1936.
