This is a history of Lawrence, MA for the first 50 years of the city's existence. The book begins with Lawrence's history as a planned textile city, and describes the city's first corporations. There are sections detailing all aspects of Lawrence including roads and bridges, public works and public property, the city's churches, schools, the public library, police and fire departments, and record of patriotism (which explains Lawrence's involvement in the Civil War). Some of Lawrence's biggest corporations such as the Washington Mills are given sections towards the end of the book. A considerable portion of the book is reserved for notable residents of the city including business owners and important town figures. The final part of the book is dedicated to advertisements of the city's various businesses and services. This book contains many photographs. Almost one photograph appears on each page. Portraits and images of the cityscape comprise the majority of photos.
