The narrator and his siblings are carrying on a business which was begun in 1931 by his father, Elias, and his uncle, Ross. The original business was started on Essex St.- cleaning carpets - done in the basement of the building. Their next location on Methuen St. was taken by the city to provide parking behind the stores and businesses on Essex St. The Winthrop Ave. location has a state-of-the-art cleaning and drying operation. The business has a large retail floor covering segment. The flooding of the Shawsheen River in May 2006 forced the closing of the business for a couple of months. Albrite Carpets
