| "I have been interested in genealogy for a number of years, and have done extensive research about my family from Lawrence. This get together was a result of my research and a visit from a relative from Ireland. I have been corresponding with Nora Dennehy O'Leary in Ireland for the last year. We had never met but share an interest in our family history. I am very interested about my family in Ireland and she was very interested about her family in the United States. The Lawrence History Center recently hosted the Dennehy Family reunion with family members from both Ireland and the US! In late summer we were contacted by Bill Fitzpatrick, grandson of Katherine O'Brien Ford and great grandson of Margaret Dennehy O'Brien, about bringing his family here for a tour. We always enjoy welcoming new visitors to LHC, so we encouraged him to make the trip to Lawrence. Little did we know this was no ordinary family visit! This was a family reunion where some people were meeting for the first time!
The LHC staff and volunteers had a wonderful time visiting with the Dennehy Family. We gave them a tour of the complex and they did a bit of research using the Lawrence City Directories. Mostly, though, the time was spent visiting, laughing and sharing stories - just how a family reunion should be!
