This book is a locally-published compilation of thirteen "prize winning" essays written on the subject "the value of better mill communication." The contest was sponsored by the American Pulp and Paper Mill Superintendents Association and occurred in 1955. The winners were as follows:

- Dr. Wilfred Gallay, director of research at E.B. Eddy Company: second place
- Vera Whitney Berney, women's personnel director at Crown Zellerbach Corporation: third place
- William G. Holmes, Midwest sales representative at Strathmore Paper Company: Connecticut Valley Division winner
- William S. McCain, industrial relations assistant manager at International Paper Company, Southern Kraft Division: Southern Division winner
- Mary Overholt, paper sorter at St. Regis Paper Company: Michigan Division winner
- Elroy Steinmetz, schedule planner at Kimberly-Clark Corporation: Northwestern Division winner
- Dr. A.L.M. Bixler, upper mills manager at Riegel Paper Corporation: Pennsylvania-New Jersey-Delaware Division winner
- Norman L. Bernard, personnel supervisor at International Paper Company, Otis Mill: Northeastern Division winner
- William G. Nettleton, assistant sulphite superintendent at Canadian International Paper Company: New York-Canadian Division winner
- H.P. Carruth, Jr., director of employee publications at The Mead Corporation: Miami Valley Division winner
- Robert L. Parks, administrative assistant at Puget Sound Pulp & Timber Company: Pacific Coast Division winner
- William H. Warren, personnel manager at Halifax Paper Company: Southeastern Division winner

All essays include the winner's portrait and are titled "The Value of Better Mill Communications" except Carruth, Jr.'s, which is titled "Is It Worth While to Improve Communication in Your Plant?"
