Lawrence History Center is beginning a search for an Executive Director of the Lawrence History Center - Immigrant City Archives. The Lawrence History Center located in the Historic North Canal District is situated at the corner of Union and Essex Streets in downtown Lawrence. As the City of Lawrence experiences an economic and cultural resurgence, the History Center is front and center. With an expansive collection of the City's history including the records of the founding company, the Essex Company, and situated in the historic National Register Essex Company compound designed by Hiram Mills, the History Center is both an archive and an historic site. Few, if any, history centers in the country combine both the original complex, virtually unchanged in its history as well, as the records of the company that planned, designed, built and managed the city, Great Stone Dam, the canals, and early mills and boarding houses.
