It was brought to our attention that there is a mis-identification in the book, View from Shanty Pond: An Irish Immigrant's Look at Life in a New England Mill Town 1875 - 1938 by Joseph P. Blanchette published in November, 1999. ISBN: 99-90262
LCCN: 0-9671537-5-1
Also Bread & Roses Mills, Migrants, and the Struggle for the American Dream by Bruce Watson published in 2005.
ISBN: 0-670-03397-9
Elizabeth Stanton Gagliano wrote to the History Center on May 28, 2008:
" There is an error on page 47 of Joseph P.Blanchette's The View from Shanty Pond. Former Mayor and Alderman Cornelius F. Lynch is identified as "Uncle Sam" in the photograph. Lynch is actually the man with the moustache behind " Uncle Sam's" left shoulder. He is holding an American flag, and looking off his left. This mis-identification also appears on page 228 in Bruce Watson's Bread and Roses. The text notes that Lynch was dressed as " Uncle Sam," when in fact he is the man behind "Uncle Sam." Lawrence History Center is grateful to Elizabeth Stanton Gagliano for bringing this error to our attention."
