Lawrence History Center was invited to speak about the role Lawrence, MA played during the Industrial Revolution. Mr.Shaun Dunlevy contacted the Center to see if we would be willing to come to the Bruce School to speak to his class - well actually it was classes - all his 8th grade classes that met on Thursday, March 20!

Pat Jaysane accepted the challenge and helped to introduce the topic of Lawrence and the Industrial Revolution as an introduction for Mr. Dunlevy's classes to the broader, world-wide topic of Industrial Revolution. The students were most interested in the working conditions of the 19th and early 20th centuries, as well as how people lived. They were especially fascinated by how the kids worked too. They also talked about the dam and the water treatment system.

How did it go?

From Pat's (LHC) point of view...
"The classes went very well. The kids were engaged and I even heard them talking about the history of Lawrence when they were out in the hall with other kids! Given that it was right before a long weekend and there was a full moon (old teacher myth), it probably couldn’t have gone better. My throat was rather dry at the end."

And from the classroom teacher's perspective... "I just wanted to thank you for Thursday. Things went really well and the kids really enjoyed the presentation. Sorry I couldn't have thanked you earlier but we have MCAS testing this week and it is really crazy!"
